Banner – a rectangular image in GIF or JPG format used for advertising on the Internet. The JPG format is used for static banner ads. Most commonly GIF-banners are used, as this format offers more possibilities for effective advertising, with the ability to use animation. Animated banners are much more effective than static ones.

Currently banner advertising is still one of the most effective forms of advertising online.
